Running race with RFID as tracking

RFID Race Timing Systems was used this year to time the 27th annual Mt Kinabalu Climbathon on the island of Sabah, Malaysia on October 18-19. The event was timed by RFID Race Timing Malaysia based in KL using Ultra and side antennas with the re-useable UltraTag. After 12km the runners reached Mt Kinabalu at 4095m above sea level and returned to the finish line for a total of 23km. The course is one of the toughest around with temperatures ranging from very hot and humid at the start/finish to near freezing at the summit. Almost 600 hardy trail runners competed this year and an in-depth race report with photos can be found here.

Sanofi Pasteur launches 2D bar coding for pediatrics

Launched Dec. 2011, the new technology is designed to reduce medical errors and help health care providers document vaccine information in patient records with greater accuracy. "The 2D bar-code technology is available because of the work by a collaborative group of stakeholders and the forward thinking of many AAP members," says Edward Zissman, MD, FAAP, co-chair of the AAP Vaccine Barcoding project. "Through the use of this technology, healthcare professionals can enhance the level of care they provide, increase office efficiency, and better manage product inventory."

There is a clear need for a system to record product information with a higher level of speed and accuracy, and we aim to address this need with the 2D bar-code technology on our vaccines," says Chad Hoover, vice president, Chief Commercial Officer, Sanofi Pasteur U.S. "As an industry leader and healthcare partner, Sanofi Pasteur is pleased to be the first vaccine manufacturer to bring this innovative technology to providers offices."

It will capture more product information in a simple two-dimensional (2D) scan--including lot numbers and expiration dates. Wonder when Malaysia will start the 2D barcode...

Prince Court Medical Center use rfid for baby tagging

The Prince Court Medical Center, located in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, recently adopted a new system to heighten security measures involving newborns.

The hospital will begin placing -embedded straps and tags on infants and mothers, to ensure no abduction or misplacement occurs. The center will also tag its equipment and other assets to track.

"What was needed was a preemptive safety measure that would effectively serve as a secondary deterrent and a back-up to the hospital's existing security measures [for tracking patients and assets],” said Shrinita Yogeswaran, PCMC's IT application manager. The hospital’s previous system involved scanning barcodes or using ID numbers on labels to track individuals or assets.

The medical center is a 300-bed, six-floor, multi-speciality-care hospital, meaning the attention needed to keep all assets and patients secure is great. Thus, the efficiency and effectiveness of RFID tags serves as a perfect solution.

Other hospitals have begun adopting similiar systems. The inclusion of RFID tags or barcode software on medicine has allowed medical centers to cut down on the rising amount of counterfeit drugs in the marketplace.

Use TEKLYNX barcode labeling software to create RFID tags with ease.

BN Youth Job Fair 2011

With 20,000 jobs on offer from 650 companies, job-seekers will have a field day at the inaugural Barisan Nasional (BN) Youth Job Fair 2011, held from March 25 to 27 at the Putra World Trade Centre (PWTC).

Touted as Malaysia’s largest career fair ever, 500,000 job-seekers – from school leavers to fresh graduates – are expected to visit the three-day job fair.

“BN Youth’s main agenda in 2011 is to ensure the young generation are provided with enough job opportunities,” said BN Youth chief Khairy Jamaluddin at the soft launch of the job fair at PWTC this morning.

“Unemployment is one of the main problems facing today’s youth,” said Khairy, who is also Umno Youth chief. “There are also many graduates who find it difficult to attain jobs that complement their qualifications.”

The companies participating in the fair would be from various industries including manufacturing, agriculture, services, hospitality, banking, engineering, IT and medical.

Khairy added that posts in the civil service would also be available at the job fair.

The job fair will also introduce an innovative barcode system designed to help create real-time submission of resumes to all prospective employers.
“The barcode system eliminates the need to print out many resumes for many booths. The job-seekers will only need to present their barcode to the prospective employer,” Khairy explained.

Printing receipts using Blackberry

Create new applications and print from multiple BlackBerry® smartphone models or Windows Mobile® devices and terminals to Zebra® mobile or stationary thermal printers by creating new apps using the ZebraLink™ Multiplatform Software Development Kit (SDK). The SDK includes source code samples, documentation and on-phone demonstration modules that make creating custom applications—with embedded support for Zebra printers—clear-cut and straightforward. The possibilities are endless – create apps to print field service records, tracking tags, point-of-sale receipts, healthcare specimen labels, etc.

Sumlung Bluetooth adaptor

The Sumlung SL-BA10 is the world’s first Bluetooth barcode adapter which is designed to fit into major handheld barcode scanners including Symbol, HHP and Metrologic and will convert this scanner into a Bluetooth device.

The main advantage of using this adapter is one which is close to many hearts this year – cost. By transforming the bog-standard scanner into a Bluetooth device Sumlung claims that you will save 30 to 50 per cent in costs in comparison to the traditional barcode scanner.

This device is aimed primarily at companies such as UPS, TNT, EMS and DHL as they will be able to scan the tracking number and the goods barcode straight into their mobile phone or PC. This technology could also be used in the warehouse and be sent the same way.

In order to use this device in conjunction with your mobile phone or PC you must first remove the wire from the bottom of the traditional scanner, the device then fits in the bottom as shown below.

Adapterin

Sumlung SL-BA10 software must then be loaded onto either the PC or mobile phone and opened. Once this is completed and the device is switched on, the fun can begin. At present the suggested retail price for this adapter is around £60 yet Sumlung assured us that the wholesale price will be cheaper.

From Mobile phones to Laptops, is getting cheaper in Malaysia  Thanks to all the new development in technology!! https://www.techhypermart.c...
